Ancient Shivta
Ancient Shivta lies in the middle of the desert in southwestern Israel.
Once a thriving town it boasted lots of
inhabitants, a winery, and a Byzantine
church. It is the key to both ancient agriculture and ancient
Christianity in the desert which once flourished and provided
an agricultural livelihood with sufficient surplus to ship wine
across the Mediterranean Sea. The church was partially restored
in the 1960's and awaits our care and attention for the future.
